This six part training will provide insight and context for working with families from sexual minorities who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to be transparent with other healthcare providers. Because we know that the best care, and especially the best outcomes, are achieved through frank, honest communication, it is vital that we strive to include as many members of our community as possible. Empowering, uplifting births are possible for all people, regardless of gender, orientation, relationship status, vocation, or previous life experiences.
The series consists of six individual sessions, which will be presented every other month for a year. The sessions will each last between three and four hours, and will include lots of frank discussions about our own experiences. It’s important to come with an open mind and heart. Be ready to examine your assumptions about sex and shame, and the ways both are intertwined with the childbearing year.
